About the Cell

The Student Grievance Redressal Cell (SGRC) is constituted to provide a fair, transparent, and time-bound mechanism for addressing grievances raised by students. The Cell aims to safeguard students’ rights, promote a healthy academic environment, and ensure that genuine concerns are resolved in accordance with the applicable UGC regulations and institutional policies.


Objectives

  • To provide a transparent grievance redressal mechanism.
  • To promote a safe, fair, and student-friendly academic environment.
  • To resolve student grievances promptly and impartially.
  • To protect students against discrimination and unfair practices.
  • To maintain confidentiality throughout the grievance redressal process.
  • To improve institutional quality through constructive feedback.

Scope of Grievances

The Cell may consider grievances related to:

  • Admission-related issues
  • Academic matters
  • Examination and evaluation
  • Attendance
  • Scholarship-related issues
  • Library services
  • Laboratory facilities
  • Infrastructure and campus facilities
  • Hostel (if applicable)
  • Student welfare services
  • Administrative issues
  • Any unfair or discriminatory treatment affecting students

The following matters are generally dealt with by separate statutory committees:

  • Sexual harassment (ICC/POSH)
  • Ragging (Anti-Ragging Committee)
  • Caste-based discrimination (SC/ST & Minority Cell or relevant committee)
  • Disciplinary misconduct

Functions of the Cell

  • Receive and acknowledge student grievances.
  • Examine complaints objectively.
  • Conduct hearings whenever necessary.
  • Recommend appropriate corrective measures.
  • Ensure fair treatment to all parties.
  • Maintain records of grievances and actions taken.
  • Submit reports to the Principal whenever required.

Complaint Procedure

  1. Submit a written or online grievance.
  2. The complaint is acknowledged by the Cell.
  3. Preliminary scrutiny of the grievance.
  4. If required, both parties are heard.
  5. The Committee examines the matter.
  6. Recommendations are submitted to the Principal.
  7. The complainant is informed of the decision.

UGC regulations require institutions to have a grievance mechanism and provide for timely handling of student complaints following the principles of natural justice.


Rules & Guidelines

  • Complaints should be genuine and submitted in good faith.
  • Anonymous complaints may not be entertained unless supported by credible evidence.
  • False or malicious complaints may invite disciplinary action as per institutional rules.
  • All proceedings shall remain confidential.
  • Students must provide complete details and supporting documents wherever applicable.
  • The decision of the competent authority shall be communicated to the complainant after due process.
  • Matters already pending before a court or other competent authority may not be considered by the Cell.

Student Rights

Students have the right to:

  • Submit grievances without fear of retaliation.
  • Receive fair and unbiased consideration.
  • Be heard during the inquiry process.
  • Receive information regarding the status of their grievance.
  • Appeal through the prescribed mechanism, where applicable.
