PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE

PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE:

The Public Relations Committee manages the institution’s communication, branding, and external outreach activities. It is responsible for maintaining a positive public image of the college through press releases, media coordination, social media updates, and event publicity. The committee ensures effective communication between the institution, stakeholders, and the public. It highlights institutional achievements, events, and initiatives, strengthening the college’s reputation and visibility.

The Public Relations Committee (PR Committee/Media & Communication Cell) serves as the primary liaison between the college and external/internal stakeholders — media, parents, alumni, Mumbai University, UGC, and the public. Its functioning is governed by the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016, UGC Guidelines on Public Self-Disclosure and Social Media Protocols, and NEP 2020 Outreach Imperatives, with its role evolving from simple press reporting into strategic stakeholder engagement.

Rules & Regulations

1) Statutory committee composition — Chaired by the Principal/Vice-Principal, with a faculty Convener/PRO (often from BAMMC/Mass Media), a designated Social Media Champion (SMC), faculty representatives across streams, a non-teaching staff representative, and student media ambassadors.

2) Single authorized spokesperson rule — Only the Principal or designated PRO may issue official statements or press releases on behalf of the college; this prevents unauthorized or conflicting communication.

3) Bilingual press release mandate — All official events (seminars, convocations, NAAC visits, admissions) must generate standardized press releases in both Marathi and English to regional/local newspapers.

4) Mandatory public self-disclosure compliance — Under UGC guidelines, the committee must ensure transparent web disclosure of NAAC status, UGC 2(f)/12(B) status, fee structures, grievance cells (ICC/Anti-Ragging/Anti-Discrimination), and RTI details, matching official University filings.

5) UGC Social Media Champion (SMC) mandate — Every HEI must nominate a faculty SMC to manage official social media handles, amplify achievements by tagging Ministry of Education, UGC, and Mumbai University, and monitor for fake/unofficial pages misusing the college’s name.

6) Crisis communication protocol — During emergencies, protests, or controversies, the PR Committee acts as the single verified source of information to prevent misinformation or defamation.

7) NEP 2020 awareness campaign duty — The PR Cell must run structured parent/student orientation campaigns explaining FYUGP, Credit Framework (CCF), Multiple Entry-Exit options, and Major/Minor choices.

8) 24-hour post-event press release SOP — Following any event, a structured press release in Marathi and English must be issued within 24 hours to media outlets and published on digital handles, as part of the standard event-coverage workflow.
