SPORTS COMMITTEE:
The Sports Committee promotes physical fitness, teamwork, and overall personality development among students through various indoor and outdoor sports activities. It organizes sports events, intercollegiate tournaments, and annual sports meets, encouraging active participation and sportsmanship. The committee identifies and nurtures sporting talent while fostering discipline, leadership, and a healthy competitive spirit within the institution.
The Sports Committee / Sports Council has undergone a fundamental transformation under NEP 2020, moving from an extracurricular body to a formal credit-earning curricular vertical, executed via University of Mumbai frameworks and structured under the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016, with governance benchmarks from UGC and NAAC. The committee now works jointly with the Examination Committee, Academic Board/CDC, and the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) portal to administer sports as a mainstream academic component.
Rules & Regulations
1) Credit framework integration — Sports is now a formal Co-Curricular Course (VBC/CC) under Mumbai University’s Sports Co-Curricular Vertical, typically carrying 2 credits per semester in early UG semesters (covering Sports, Physical Literacy, Health & Fitness, Yoga).
2) 60-hour mandatory engagement tracking — The Sports Committee/In-charge must design, track, and verify 60 hours of practical engagement per semester, covering sports sessions, gym/yoga participation, volunteering, and tournament involvement.
3) Marks bifurcation for evaluation — The course is assessed out of 50 total marks: 20 marks internal (continuous assessment/participation/discipline) and 30 marks semester-end (evaluation of a Hard Copy Report on the 60-hour activity log).
4) Evidentiary compliance for reports — Student activity reports must be verified for authenticity using geo-tagged photographs, fee/attendance receipts, coach-signed attendance sheets, or tournament certificates.
5) Mandatory intramural tournaments — The committee must organize weekly intramural (intra-college) tournaments to shift from an elite-athlete model to holistic, campus-wide participation, per UGC’s fitness/well-being mandate.
6) Self-defense training requirement — The committee must regularly organize self-defense training programs, with particular focus on girl students.
7) Administrative composition — Headed by the Director of Physical Education/Sports Officer, including designated faculty, the Gymkhana vice-chairman, and student sports coordinators, ensuring gender representation — mandated under the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016 and NAAC audit requirements.
8) Credit mapping via ABC portal — All credits earned through the sports vertical must be structured for upload to the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) portal via Mumbai University’s digital infrastructure, with syllabus design approved through the Academic Board/LMC/CDC.
